The NHS is to develop a Medicines Safety Improvement Programme as part of its new Patient Safety Strategy. The strategy, which was published on Tuesday, 2 July 2019, is aiming to save an extra 1000 lives and £100 million in care costs per year.
Medicine Safety Programme
The Medicines Safety Improvement Programme will focus on increasing safety within the areas of medicine which are currently considered as the highest risk. As part of the programme, pharmacists will be trained in shared decision-making to help any patients who take opioids, and those with atrial fibrillation on anticoagulants.
