A new technique which has been developed to eradicate life-threatening urinary tract infections (UTIs) in hospital patients who need to use catheters could save the NHS almost £100 million per year, according to researchers.

The UK-based researchers noted that UTIs caused by catheters are one of the most common healthcare associated infections (HCAIs), responsible for up to 35% of such cases in UK hospitals.
