New research, based in Scotland, suggests that vaccinating boys against the Human Papillomavirus, more commonly known as HPV, could cut cancer rates related to the virus in men in the long term.
The two-year study of 235 patients with head and neck cancers found that HPV was present in 60% of cases. HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection, with some types being linked to cancer – in particular, cervical cancer in women and head and neck cancer in men.
