Scientists in the United States of America have found a new way of editing the code of life, which could correct 89% of errors in DNA which cause disease.
The new technology, called ‘Prime Editing’, has been described as a “genetic word processor” able to accurately rewrite the genetic code. It has already been used to correct damaging mutations in a lab setting, including those which cause sickle cell anaemia.
